Robert Jackson’s Magnum Oafus

  • I Must Be Nuts

I decided to test my theory that eating nuts would help me with nicotine cravings so early yesterday evening I ate a whole 250g bag of unshelled roasted peanuts and it seemed to have the following effects: after a few hours I became sleepy, although I can’t be sure this wasn’t just normal tiredness. But then I only slept for a few hours (note the time of this post) and I woke up feeling poorly but seem to have recovered quickly. They also left an unusual aftertaste in my mouth.

I found out peanuts are a source of choline so it will be interesting to see whether my digestion is worse for a couple of days (it had improved dramatically after I stopped taking Lactulose and just started drinking a pint of orange juice in the morning.

I should point out that one of the reasons I came round to thinking about natural remedies for physical and mental health problems was due to being given a massive dose of an antipsychotic called Paliperidone which seems to have caused me a serious hormonal imbalance. Although I am withdrawing from the drug naturally with time as the drug is metabolised I have found my own rapidly researched natural remedies seem to have dramatically sped this process up.

Whether eating so many peanuts at once was such a wise idea I can’t be sure but I think from now on I’ll stick to eating a smaller portion of mixed nuts later in the evening to get a broad spread of essential compounds. This is a recommended part of good healthy nutrition anyway.

Our grandparents had so many sensible phrases that have stood the test of time.

    ‘Everything in moderation’

    ‘You are what you eat’

‘A little of what you fancy’

If you’re interested in any of my theories on nutrition and mental health please see my earlier posts:

But please do not stop taking any prescribed medication without speaking to your doctor and psychiatrist (if you have one).

What are your family’s top 3 favorite meals?

    A fish supper.

    Beef Curtains.

    Sausage sandwich.

…Best served with plenty of hot sauce.

Thinking about it, it must be time I threw another one of my swinging dinner parties (no need to bring a bottle).

It’s cleaning up afterwards that’s the biggest chore..

  • Smoking Sensation

Please note: I am not a medical professional or nutritionist, these are only my own ideas. However, I’m willing to bet your Doctor would tell you it was fine to bite the head off a live bat if it stopped you smoking.

I’ve been feeling generally a lot more positive lately and I am hoping to make it my new year’s resolution to quit smoking (I managed to quit for 14 years cold turkey when I was younger but eventually started again).

Working with the knowledge that improvements in health and nutrition are vital in keeping the body’s hormones balanced I started thinking of a few changes that I could make to help which goes back to some of my earlier posts.

I intend to also have nicotine replacement therapy to hand, I’ve found a couple of these effective in the past, particularly the mouth sprays and inhalators but if you want to try NRT find the one that suits you, there’s also patches and gum.

But on to the dietary changes I think could help me bearing in mind that nicotine stimulates dopamine in the brain.

Looking at the Nicotinell website the fruits and vegetables they are recommending are all summer fruits and vegetables. My theory (untested) is that these will lower dopamine and make quitting harder (I have a theory that dopamine and acetylcholine may work in opposition to each other to balance out).

This is what I’m going to try then:

To start the day with a strong coffee in the morning before breakfast and a couple of squirts on the mouth spray. A glass of orange juice after breakfast. A glass of orange juice after a lunch with winter veg, and some nuts in the evening. I intend to use the mouth spray as required and I’m certain positive thought will help, it’s known to.

Of course it makes a lot of sense to listen to your body so if you crave an apple, eat one.

You and I will just have to wait until at least February to see how I get on.

  • A Toast to Good Elf

    The subject of today’s potcast:

The above is a little ceramic dwarf I bought for £2 in a charity shop in Harold Hill last week. He’s not my usual sort of thing but when I saw him he looked good quality and just interesting.

What, however, clinched the deal for me was an artists name impressed to the inside at the base and obviously done with a professionally made stamp.

    The name: K Hayward

I just had to get him home for some research, I was now Lord of this thing.

The most likely candidate is Kate Hayward whose website is here:

Kate Haywood – Society of Designer Craftsmen

I don’t know what her work costs, as it’s not really my sort of subject matter I may try to sell it, I need the money more at the moment.

  • What’s Your Favourite Insult?

I’m taking my inspiration for today’s missive from myself, an idea I got from a blog I subscribe to by Eric Foltin.

And below is my favourite insult:

“I find you, as they said in Middle English, a little quaint.”

I aim it at people in chat rooms that have abused me and it’s the one I’ve thought of that can be used repeatedly.

That said, no one’s left me with that impression yet today so don’t be paranoid or offended (hieorographics not needed).

I’m planning at least one potcast today, maybe two so I’m sure you few will be waiting with baited breath.

    Good Health to all.

  • Egrets, I’ve Shot a Few

The final part of the musical interlude and it’s a sort of reminiscence starting recently and going back to primary school.

Even my housewife sister has this on CD, why had I not heard this until a week ago. Wet Leg are from the Isle of Wight, wet legs are from the mainland.

This next one reminds me of a couple of summers ago, sitting outside the library at 2 in the morning sharing a roll up with an autistic teenager who had her plans to go to university destroyed by Goodmayes a few months after me. It broke my heart to see the state they left her in. It’s a very long track but well worth the listen. Superb.

Placebo have been around donkey’s years and they’re still releasing material. This is an old track but I still like it.

Going back a bit, this stoner rock band are cool. Reminds me of the time I spent working for a fund manager in London.

This is an acoustic track by Tyla of one of his old Dogs D’amour tracks, my girlfriend at the time absolutely hated everything about this album.

This takes me back to when I got back from Australia and rented a 2 bed flat with a friend, he got me into this band over endless vodka, pizza and Playstation Worms sessions.

One or two people at university thought this should be my anthem, back then I used to measure distances in Marlboro red; it wasn’t a 20 minute walk, it was 4 Marlboro red.

My sister’s boyfriend introduced me to metal so something a bit different in that genre.

Back to school days and there are quite a few I could choose but went for Ultravox. Back then the TV news scared us ragged that the Russians were about to nuke us.

Even further back to primary school and one of the best bands of that era.

Finally! some Chas ‘n’ Dave. I actually used to go down to Margate with my whole family including nana Jackson in dad’s old Hillman Minx. Penny slots on the pier, Dreamland, ice cream and a sea full of raw sewage.

Time for bed, I’ve wasted a few hours of another wasted day listening to music.

  • Let There Be Rock

I expect I’ll take a break tomorrow, I’ve got a few jobs to do in return for money. Not quite wages but it’ll see me through until the Government graciously gives me some of my own money back.

Anyway to kick off this post I’ll start with a couple of bands I found on youtube before buying their CD’s

    First up Swedish Medieval metal!

    And some Mongolian folk rock.

When I first came across ISIS I thought they had a pleasing melancholy.

    Now a few classics:

    Ronnie James Dio R.I.P

It took me a while to get into Stained Class when I first got it but it’s actually a really good album. I’m labouring a point with this track.

I had this on Vinyl bought second hand in Sounds Familiar in Romford. I once met snooker legend Steve Davis in there. I love the vocals on this track.

  • I’ve Warmed Up My Battered Sausage

So now it’s time for the musical interlude to continue. I’ve got a punk reader and now a metalhead so I’ll do a post for each of them plus one for me of random tracks I just like.

Oi Oi it’s time for some punk.

    I love this Propagandhi track.

And now an American doing British punk.

I think these guys must be from Germany or Austria. I’m delighted to hear the working man is the first to die, I haven’t lifted a finger in over two years.

    Here’s some classic British punk.

Here’s a modern London band. This song reminds of my football days, invading the pitch at Upton Park in ’88 when I was still a kid at school and chanting abuse at Colin from Eastenders in the crowd (he took it on the chin well). Come on you Irons.

Rock Next, some classic, some modern.

  • Bon Voyage

Or: abnormal service will resume after a musical interlude.

After my violent abduction and forced incarceration for 6 weeks by the NHS at a cost I estimate at north of £50,000 instead of the treatment I didn’t really want but would have accepted at a cost of around £250 I was left feeling like the living dead (I believe between them Dr Jaffar and Dr Mahmood of Goodmayes Hospital have nearly killed me 3 times).

Yet with just a bit of research and vitamin D supplements and fresh orange juice I am mostly feeling rock ‘n’ roll again (apart from brain damage which I may never fully recover from).

But for the UK taxpayers I have some more bad news: I estimate my measurable losses at £150k in lost earnings plus damages for a shortened life expectancy.

For the NHS staff that did this all to me consider the following allegations I am making against you:

    GBH

    Racially motivated GBH

    Negligence

    Assault and battery

    Perjury and libel

    Breaches of my article 3, 5, 6, 8 and 10 rights.

Don’t forget forging warrants but that’s between the NHS and the Police.

    To sum up then.

    The clap for ’em all.

    CTO y’all soon.

  • There’s Lead in my Pencil!

I recently started drinking a pint of fresh orange juice in the morning because I’d read about it’s laxative effect but an unexpected effect that is also known is that it increases testosterone: I finally feel a bit more able to fight and f*ck so here’s two songs to do just that without any laws getting broken: one for both instincts and topical to me.

Sharp scratch as the needle goes down on the record.
